about ctc

Our

Purpose

Over the past few years, local cultural organizations, the retail and business sector and community organizations in Chinatown have worked together to develop plans that address potential economic, design and social matters, culminating in the Chinatown Strategy. Out of this, the CTC was created to provide a broader governance and community leadership network.

Before the CTC was formed, a Chinatown Community Economic Development Task Force provided guidance and leadership to develop a strategic direction that ultimately led to the Chinatown Strategy.

Key contributors were The Chinese Benevolent Association for their cultural and heritage knowledge, the Chinatown Business Improvement Area for business and commerce needs, the Edmonton Chinese Young Leaders Council for succession and sustainability of the initiative, and other business stakeholders and City liaisons.

'Thriving businesses and happy community members, a prosperous and sustainable hub of cultural, commercial, and social activity'— This is the vision that CTC is working so hard to achieve. In partnership with the City of Edmonton, community organizations, non-profits, business owners, and residents, we are working collectively towards making Chinatown a vibrant and inclusive place to visit and live in.

The Chinatown Transformation Collaborative Society of Edmonton, or CTC YEG, was formed in 2018 by a group of passionate advocates and organizations who continue to share the goal of preserving Chinatown as a culturally significant and celebrated location in Edmonton.

Chinatown is recognized as a significant cultural and economic hub in the city's core and needs additional targeted investment to support its growth and manage some social challenges.
